Findings

While participants had difficulty directly linking coaching to the achievement of specific organizational goals, a theme of improved school culture emerged. Through coaching, they developed leadership behaviors that helped foster stronger relationships among staff, students, and parents. Participants observed teachers and staff more frequently stepping into leadership roles and proactively addressing challenges, which increased confidence, pride, and a sense of belonging.

I’ve seen how teachers now take ownership and pride in things that used to fluster them before [and] that they now feel empowered to resolve on their own.…[Teachers now] see their purpose in their school…and that’s beautiful to observe.
— Study Participant

Most participants indicated situational problem solving was the leadership behavior they focused on most during coaching, which was closely followed by communication, resilience, and supervision of staff.
